Ask most fleet managers why they switched to LED lighting and you'll get one answer: it's brighter. That's true, but it's not the whole story — and treating every light on the truck the same way is how fleets end up with the wrong light in the wrong spot.
Why LED won the argument
LEDs reach full brightness instantly, draw a fraction of the power older halogen or incandescent lights needed, and hold up to years of vibration and road shock that would eventually crack a filament. That's why they've become the standard for warning and signal lighting — not because they're newer, but because they solve the specific failure points that used to put trucks in the shop over a burned-out bulb.

Brightness, color, and flash pattern all do different work

There's a temptation in this industry to chase the newest thing every year. I've never trusted that instinct much, and it's part of why I like recommending suppliers who've been doing one thing well for a long time instead of doing a lot of things new.
What almost three decades actually buys you
A company that's been developing LED lighting technology since the late 1990s has already worked through the failure modes a newer entrant hasn't hit yet — lenses that yellow in UV, seals that fail after a few winters, wiring that corrodes in road salt. That kind of experience doesn't show up on a spec sheet. It shows up in a light that still works the same way five years after it went on the truck.
A light that fails in the field doesn't just cost the part — it costs the truck being pulled over, or worse, not being seen.
Where it matters most
Warning and signal lighting isn't a place to save a few dollars on an unproven part. Whether it's a work truck, a school bus, or a utility vehicle, the whole job of that light is to be seen and trusted in exactly the moment it matters.
